Sonic Elements: Air
Our concept of Sonic Elements breaks down the building blocks of sound and space to the most simple components.
As the world stepped back and spent more time listening, we've seen field recording experience unprecedented popularity this past 12 months.
Perhaps in troubled times, the simple and universal qualities of that which we hear around us: the elements, can help us to form a universal language to share and express our experiences with the world.
In SONIC ELEMENTS, with this premise, we recruited a global team to form a conversation based on these elemental features of the sounds they hear.
Following an introductory workshop video from MSCTY_Studio's Nick Luscombe + James Greer, our group from Indonesia, Mongolia, Singapore, Kenya, Thailand, the US, Japan, UK, France, and Hong Kong took part in a series of workshops from Chris Watson, Kate Carr, and Sirasar Boonma.

Participants were given the element AIR to work with, and with impressive creativity, shared a diversity of elemental sounds from around the world which MSCTY_STUDIO reformed into a singular long-form piece.
This piece forms the soundtrack to accompany Aeropendulum, an installation by Archicomplex for Wonderfruit [and premiered at winter 2020's Moobaan Wonder festival].

Aeropendulum, illuminated at Moobaan Wonder [2020].
Featuring sounds from: Emmanuel Mieville, Kwan Queenie Li, Satria Adiyasa Anggapradja, Ghoniyya Hamida, Joseph Kamaru Mwangi, Christina Hazboun, Levi C Masuli, Tini Aliman, Miguel Buendia, Heu Heu, Pipatpong Seepeng, Emma-Kate Matthews, Luke Poulson, Mat Eric Hart, Frances Ulman, Sarah King.
